The first JOIN Volunteer Swap was set up as a chain throughout Europe: First, St John Cyrus sent volunteers to a project in England, whereupon volunteers from St John Ambulance in England volunteered in Latvia, and so forth, until the chain came full circle with St John Cyprus hosting Italian volunteers at the final event.
Thirteen enterprises of Johanniter International participated. The projects ranged from providing first aid at the London Marathon and assistance for homeless people in Switzerland to a soup kitchen in Riga.
